MD Systems stands for technology that serves people and has been doing so for 25 years. We are committed to ensuring that the digital environment is understandable, accessible and trustworthy - for everyone.
MD Systems stands for open source collaboration because it gives us access to the brightest minds in the world, from whom we can learn and with whom we can grow. True to the credo: Sharing is caring.
Through our work in the multiverse of open source and our know-how, we are always invited to share our knowledge at talks, presentations and workshops. On May 13, we were part of the DigitUp of swissICT (we have been active in specialist groups for the association since many years). We are now sharing the most important insights from the founder of MD Systems, Miro Dietiker, and his presentation on "Digital Sovereignty" with you in easily digestible bites via our blog.

Digital sovereignty, no black and white possible
Especially now, with the negative influence of America, we need to define solutions for users and companies at a political level. This is the only way we can sufficiently safeguard Switzerland as a business location and guarantee sovereignty.
The promise of digitalization
Digitalization brings with it enormous opportunities. For business, society, education, administration and everyday life. In the following lines, we start with a list of the positive aspects of digitalization.
Through the Automation processes, we can increase the efficiency Efficiency increase. It requires less manual work, which results in fewer errors. The Communication becomes faster, worldwide. Analyses and forecasts can also be automated deliver more precise results and make the step into the future more tangible and less risky.
Thanks to global networking and flexible (collaborative) working, new business Business models and Innovations can emerge. Due to the diverse Platform economy opens up new markets and new value chains can be generated (examples; Uber and Airbnb). Our movements on the internet mean that products are becoming more customized and AI-generated content "literally & figuratively" tailored to us and the Personalization of goods can be easily implemented using 3D printers. With all these digital tools, it is also easier for new players (start-ups) to find a niche and the barriers to entry, due to the lack of legal formsare low.
Positive developments, such as Accessibilitysupport access to the new technologies and enable more and more people to participate in what is happening. Information is more easily accessible and accessible to almost everyone. With E-learning, MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and the existing Open Educational Resources, studying is becoming easier and can be conveniently integrated into everyday life (example; language learning apps). The global networking enables us to exchange ideas on a 24/7 basis, inputs are always available and accessible.
Time is therefore flexible and we can set up and design our working environment according to our needs. This means an automatic improvement in quality of life so to speak. People are relieved of certain mental tasks by Smart living (the fridge orders for you) or autonomous autonomous driving in combination with optimized traffic control. In the healthcare sector, the digitalization of patient records has simplified some processes in recent years and early diagnosis using AI is contributing to more comprehensive knowledge more comprehensive knowledge around the human being. What the Quality of life of the individual.
Thanks to Open data and the advancing eGovernments the administration can function in a citizen-oriented manner and citizens are given more Right of co-determination. Trustworthy systems such as blockchain and general decentralization make middlemen obsolete.
The potential to function sustainably as a company is enhanced by all the combined and accurate data finally possible. Examples of this are Conservation of resources through smart energy control, the calculable waste disposal and measurable water consumption - and these are just the obvious possibilities.
Thanks to better tracking, supply chains can be made more efficient and waste can be minimized.
We have now highlighted all the key benefits of digitalization. In the next blog post, we will look at the downside of digitalization. Here are two critical statements that will get the thought ping-pong going.
- Is deliberately damaging Swiss sovereignty treason?
- Sovereignty is not black and white, it is a trade-off. Where is the sustainability?
